As a parent, your child’s health and well-being are obviously very important. Maintaining healthy teeth and gums in their childhood, and instilling good oral hygiene habits decreases their chances of having oral health problems in adulthood.

Encouraging a child to brush their teeth is often as easy as providing them with a themed toothbrush and child safe toothpaste that has been approved by the American Dental Association. Once they are done playing at brushing you can make an additional pass with their toothbrush to ensure all the surfaces of their teeth have been cleaned.

Early on children often lack the manual dexterity needed to floss with traditional dental floss. Providing them with a small floss stick with a strand of waxed dental floss can help them experiment at flossing their own teeth. As the years go by and their dexterity improves, they can gradually start to try flossing with standard dental floss. Sometimes flavored dental floss that has been approved by the ADA can help encourage them to floss each day.

Attending a dental checkup at Dr. Arpan Patel’s dental office is also very important for tracking their oral development and detecting can signs of tooth decay or gum disease. If you live in the Langhorne, Pennsylvania, area and you have concerns about your child’s oral hygiene, you should call (215) 970-2515 to speak a member of the staff at Alpha Dental Excellence.
