What does getting a porcelain Veneer involve?

Regardless of what causes unattractive teeth, dental veneers may solve most or even all of your cosmetic dental issues, including:

  • Worn Enamal: Over time, the thin, hard white substance covering your teeth (enamel) may become worn, dulled, and discolored. Such wear and discoloration may be natural or the result of a genetic predisposition; however, it is often a result of your habits (soft drink, tea, or coffee consumption, smoking, medication use, etc.).
  • Wear and tear: Teeth naturally wear down as people age. Aged teeth are more likely to have chips, cracks or a generally uneven appearance.
  • Genetics: Certain people may be born with abnormal spacing between the teeth that grows wider as they age.
  • Uneven teeth: Uneven teeth (crowded or misaligned) can result from tooth grinding or general wear and tear.

What Does Getting a Porcelain Veneer Involve?

Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process:
Appointment 1

With little or no anesthesia required during the procedure. The teeth are prepared by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to allow for the thickness of the porcelain veneer or lumineer. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and if need be, a temporary restoration will be placed before you walk out of our office.
At this appointment, our highly trained dentists at Alpha Dental Excellence will do what they do best. Sit with you and design your new smile. Here, they will select things such as shape, size, color, characteristics of each individual porcelain veneer, etc…

Appointment 2

On the second visit, our doctors will first get your approval of all your veneers on the model before proceeding to give you a test run in your mouth. Once you and your dentist have with 100% satisfaction accepted the entirety of the veneers in your mouth, then only will we proceed with the final cementation process. (If you are unhappy with any, we mean, any aspect of your veneer, we will simply resolve it in our office or send it back to the lab for modifications before the cementation process.

At this stage, your teeth are cleansed with special liquids to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light beam is used to harden and set the bond. All cements are than cleaned up and your veneers are polished.
You will receive care instructions for veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new veneers.
