Have you recently chipped a tooth? Do you have an oddly-sized or misshapen tooth? Is it discolored—not matching the other teeth? Then you may want to talk to us about dental bonding. Bonding can be a permanent or temporary fix for any of these issues. It is less expensive than veneers, and can be done in one office visit.

Tooth bonding is a composite resin, mixed to match the teeth, applied to the surface of a tooth. First the dentist will roughen-up the outer enamel of the tooth that is being treated so that the resin will adhere. Once this is done, the bonding material is applied and shaped. A special light activates and hardens it. Finally, it is polished to look like your natural teeth.

There are other methods to fix chips, discoloration, and misshapen teeth besides bonding. Porcelain veneers applied to the front of teeth are another option, but they are more expensive and time-consuming. Many people will get their teeth bonded while waiting for their veneers to be made.

Caring for bonded teeth is no different than you would care for your natural teeth. You will want to avoid any activities that might damage them, wear a mouthguard when playing sports, etc. Keep in mind that the bonding material will fracture or crack just as would your original teeth. The bond can also become stained just as natural teeth will by things like coffee and red wine. Remember, with proper care bonded teeth can look great and last for many years.
